Being Faithful

Published by at 1:30 am under Life

My job is not to be famous. My job is not to be influential. My job is not to be productive. My job is to be faithful – to do all the good God has arranged for me to do. The Parable of the Talents is not a story of productivity. It’s a tale of faithfulness.

Why do so many of us crave positions of authority? It just means more work. Most people who are working today feel overworked. So why do we want MORE responsibility? Perhaps it makes us feel important. Maybe we like the power, the admiration, the money. How many of us can say, “I enjoy my work because it feels like I’m being faithful.”?

Could it be that our SOCIETY rewards people who are productive? And our GOD rewards people who are faithful? The two may not always be linked.

So many of us labor, longing to be seen by bosses and influencers, too infrequently pausing to consider how all our activity is seen by God.

The eyes of the Lord range throughout the earth, looking not for the productive but those whose hearts are fully committed to him – the pure-hearted and the faithful (2 Chronicles 16:9).

Feel like you’re a nobody because you don’t have a great position or don’t have great skills? God loves the position of the humble, not the humble-bragger.

Feel like you don’t accomplish much compared to others? Don’t be so quick to beat yourself up. Hustle without heart is like a vase with no flowers. It’s quite empty to God. And our lives aren’t about comparison anyway.

Whatever your hand finds to do, do it with all your might…
_Ecclesiastes 9:10

All YOUR might. Not the might of someone else. Use all YOU have. It may not be much compared to someone else. But remember: an ant doesn’t compete against a blue whale. A heavyweight boxer doesn’t fight against a featherweight. We’re all in different categories with different purposes. Don’t despise your design!

Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for human masters.
_Colossians 3:23

Again, remember today: God is our master, our commander, our guide. Walk with him. Do your best. Our job is only to be faithful!
